Surtr WIP

Here's where I'm at now.... struggling and fighting with the color composition. The dude is meant to be a giant from norse mythology (bad guy), but I'm finding it's hard to communicate Thor-like design without a feather headed helmet, of which I don't figure a giant would be wearing.

Meant to be the fire giant Surtr who's grand role is played during Ragnarok... I realized after I had finished the design, that he's suppose to have fire hair and flaming armor... so lets call this a very loose interpretation.

Any critique is totally appreciated

Been fighting with this for a while, but figured I'd post what I've got.
It's supposed to be Heimdallr, though he ended up looking more Spartan than Norse.

Changed the design to give it more weight and make it a bit more Nordic.

This fits here

This is a necromancer design for concept class.  In our story the necromancer is Nordic so I figured I would post it here since it's been a while since I participated.

something i was messing around with this weekend, crits welcome!

Edit: Here's where I'm at now. Fixed the crop and took the silhouette into account. I'm trying to add more without overdoing it... make more of a story out of the character.

Where I'm at now. Any critique welcome.

S.C.G.C.S (Stereotypical Cool Guy Cyborg Soldier)

Kind of losing sight as to what changes affect this positively. I tried to keep the overall piece loose, but what mostly kept me busy was anatomical problems involving the legs. The background and color came as a later addition, but I thought that in the cropped image they add a good cinematic effect.
As usual, critiques welcome.

New Prompt: Submersible

I thought this picture was funny.

Wikipedia entry: "A submersible is a small vehicle designed to operate underwater. The term submersible is often used to differentiate from other underwater vehicles known as submarines, in that a submarine is a fully autonomous craft, capable of renewing its own power and breathing air, whereas a submersible is usually supported by a surface vessel, platform, shore team or sometimes a larger submarine."

Archipelago

Getting frustrated. Every time I add a new layer, I paint for 20 minutes, turn the layer off, and realize the painting was better before I changed it. I've tried adding all kinds of boats and structures, but I fail to fit them into the landscape in a way I like.
Mostly I'm failing to get the right value and color, and whatever I add doesn't seem to belong. Probably due to the fact that I'm using a color palette from multiple images, neither of which have any type of structures or boats.

Spirit Guy WIP

I was going with a "golden eagle" theme, and had put the character in a pose where he was to have an eagle landing on right arm. I didn't get to that point yet.
Right before posting, I was wondering why that eagle symbol on the sword looked familiar... Unfortunately, after a Google search I found it's a symbol used by.... the Nazis. (They were some stylish bastards.)
So, needless to say the symbol would have to change, as well as the gesture and size of the right arm. I'm sure he'd also benefit from some legs at some point.

Edit: Wow, it really looks like the arm of a small child..

Had some issues rendering the background, so just the guide for now.
Might try to develop that staff/dagger/skewer(?) a bit more. I drew it with the idea that it'd be used for black magic or other miscellaneous spooky things, but it looks sort of plain right now.

New Prompt: Spirit Guide

You can pretty much take this prompt anywhere, as long as the guide is human or human based (as opposed to a spirit animal). Don't hesitate to add animal features, though, or any other modifications that could make the guide more interesting.

Icy Mountains WIP

I didn't consciously make the decision, but this is definitely Skyrim inspired.

Got heavy handed with the airbrush before I posted, but I'm going to remove the layer to continue working anyway.

New Prompt: Change of the Seasons.

So for this prompt I was thinking that you could personify a season and then show how they change the season. It dosn't need to be a human either, Just make it work :)
