Cool sketch. I like your design and sense of mass.
First thing that came to my mind as i saw this was that it looked like a fat Cthulhu that got stuck in a hole he was trying to crawl through. Still badass.

i was gonna make him coming out of a massive hole in the ocean floor, with a wrecked submarine nearby to show scale

Really like your process of finding forms and textures - maybe just push your overall design
